9aNow it happened when Solomon had completedbuilding the house of Yahweh, and bthe king’shouse, and call1that Solomon desired to do, 2that aYahwehappeared to Solomon a secondtime, as He had appeared to him at Gibeon. 3And Yahwehsaid to him, “aI have heard your prayer and your supplication, which you have madebefore Me; I have setapartasholythishousewhich you have builtbby putting My namethere forever, and cMy eyes and My heart will be there perpetually. 4“As for you, aif you will walkbefore Me as your fatherDavidwalked, in integrity of heart and uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you and will keep My statutes and My judgments, 5then aI will establish the throne of your kingdomoverIsraelforever, just as I 1promised to your fatherDavid, saying, ‘You shall not have a mancut off from the throne of Israel.’
6“aBut if you or your sonsindeedturnaway from following Me, and do not keep My commandmentsand My statuteswhich I have givenbefore you, and go and serveothergods and worship them, 7athen I will cutoffIsrael from the landwhich I have given them, and bthe housewhich I have setapartasholy for My name, I will 1castout of My presence. So cIsrael will become a proverb and a byword among allpeoples. 8“And thishouse will become1,aa heap of ruins; everyone who passes by will feeldesolate and hiss and say, ‘bWhy has Yahwehdonethus to thisland and to thishouse?’ 9“And they will say, ‘aBecause they forsookYahweh their God, whobrought their fathersout of the land of Egypt, and tookhold of othergods and worshiped them and served them, therefore Yahweh has broughtallthiscalamity on them.’”

15Now this is the account of the forcedlaborwhichKingSolomonaraisedup to build the house of Yahweh, his own house, the 1,bMillo, the wall of Jerusalem, cHazor, dMegiddo, and eGezer. 16ForPharaohking of Egypt had goneup and capturedGezer and burned it with fire, and killed the aCanaanites who lived in the city, and had bgiven it as a dowry to his daughter, Solomon’swife. 17So SolomonrebuiltGezer and the loweraBeth-horon18and aBaalath and Tamar in the wilderness, in the landof Judah,19and all the storagecitieswhichSolomonhad, and athe cities for 1his chariots, and the cities for 2,bhis horsemen, and 3,call that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land4under his rule. 20As forall the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites, who were not of the sons of Israel, 21anamely, their sonswho were leftafter them in the landbwhom the sons of Israelwere unable to devote to destruction, fromcthem Solomonraisedupdforced laborers tothisday. 22But Solomonadid not makeslaves of the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, his chariotcommanders, and his horsemen.
23Thesewere the 1,achiefdeputieswhowereoverSolomon’swork, 550, bwho had dominion over the peopledoing the work.
24As soon as aPharaoh’sdaughtercameup from the city of David to her housewhichSolomon had built for her, bthen he built the Millo.
25And athreetimes in a yearSolomonofferedburntofferings and peaceofferings on the altarwhich he built to Yahweh, burningincense with them on the altarwhichwasbeforeYahweh. So he finished the house.

2 Chronicles 8
Solomon Builds Cities
8aNow it happened at the end of the twentyyears in whichSolomon had built the house of Yahweh and his own house2that he built the citieswhichHuram had given to 1him, and settled the sons of Israelthere.
3Then Solomonwent to Hamath-zobah and overpowered it. 4And he builtTadmor in the wilderness and all the storagecitieswhich he had built in Hamath. 5He also builtupperaBeth-horon and lowerBeth-horon, bfortifiedcitieswithwalls, gates and bars; 6and Baalath and all the storagecities which Solomonhad, and all the cities for 1his chariots, and the cities for 2his horsemen, and all that Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, in Lebanon, and in all the land3under his rule.
7aAs forall the people who were left of the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of Israel, 8namely, from their sonswho were leftafter them in the landwhom the sons of Israel had not consumed, afrom them Solomonraisedupforcedlaborers to thisday. 9But Solomon did not makeslaves for his work from the sons of Israel; for they were men of war, his chiefcaptains and his chariotcommanders and his horsemen. 10These were the chief1deputies of KingSolomon, 250 who 2ruled over the people.
11aThen SolomonbroughtPharaoh’sdaughterup from the city of David to the housewhich he had built for her, for he said, “My wife shall not live in the house of Davidking of Israel, because1the places are holywhere the ark of Yahweh has entered.”
12ThenSolomonofferedburntofferings to Yahweh on athe altar of Yahwehwhich he had builtbefore the porch; 13and adid so according to the dailyrule, offeringthemupbaccording to the commandment of Moses, for cthe sabbaths, dthe newmoons and the ethree annual feasts—the Feast of UnleavenedBread, the Feast of Weeks and the Feast of Booths.
14And according to the judgment of his fatherDavid, he caused athe divisions of the priests to stand for their service, and bthe Levites for their responsibilities to praise and ministerbefore the priests according to the dailyrule, and cthe gatekeepers by their divisions at everygate; for dDavid the man of God had socommanded. 15And they did not turnaway from the commandment of the king to the priests and Levites in anymanner or concerning the treasuries.
16Thus all the work of Solomon was carriedout1from the day of the foundation of the house of Yahweh, and until it was completed. So the house of Yahweh was finished.
17ThenSolomonwent to aEzion-geber and to bEloth on the shore of the sea in the land of Edom. 18And Huram by the hand of his servantssent him ships and servants who knew the sea; and they went with Solomon’sservants to Ophir, and atook from there1450 talents of gold and broughtthem to KingSolomon.
Revelation 17
The Woman and the Beast
17aThenone of the bsevenangels who have the csevenbowlscame and spoke with me, saying, “Comehere, I will show you dthe judgment of the egreatharlot who fsits on manywaters, 2with whomathe kings of the earthcommitted1sexualimmorality, and bthose who dwell on the earth were cmadedrunk with the wine of her 2sexualimmorality.” 3And ahe carried me away1,bin the Spiritcinto a wilderness; then I saw a womansitting on a dscarletbeast, full of eblasphemousnames, havingfsevenheads and tenhorns. 4And the womanawas clothed in purple and scarlet, and 1adorned with gold and precious2stones and pearls, having in her handba goldcupfull of abominations and of the uncleanthings of her 3sexualimmorality, 5and on her forehead a namewaswritten, a amystery, “bBABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF cTHE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” 6Then I saw the womandrunk with athe blood of the saints, and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus. When I saw her, I wondered1greatly. 7And the angelsaid to me, “Why 1do you wonder? I will tell you the amystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the bsevenheads and the tenhorns.
8“aThe beast that you sawbwas, and is not, and isabouttoccomeup out of the dabyss and 1,ego to destruction. And fthose who dwell on the earth, whosename has not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, will wonder when they see the beast, that he was and is not and will come. 9“aHere is the mind which haswisdom. The bsevenheads are sevenmountains on which the womansits, 10and they are sevenakings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yetcome; and when he comes, he mustremain a littlewhile. 11“And the beastwhichawas and is not, is himselfalso an eighth and is one of the seven, and he bgoes to destruction. 12“And the atenhornswhich you saw are tenkingswho have not yetreceived a kingdom, but they receiveauthority as kings with the beastbfor onehour. 13“Thesehaveaone1purpose, and they give their power and authority to the beast. 14“These will wageawaragainst the Lamb, and the Lamb will bovercome them, because He is cLord of lords and dKing of kings, and ethosewho are with Him are thefcalled and elect and faithful.”
15And he *said to me, “The awaterswhich you sawwhere the harlotsits, are bpeoples and crowds and nations and tongues. 16“And the atenhornswhich you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will blaywaste to her and makehercnaked, and will deat her flesh and will eburn her up with fire. 17“For aGodgaveit in their hearts to do His 1purpose both 2by bdoingtheir owncommonpurpose and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the cwords of God will be finished. 18“And the womanwhom you saw is athe greatcity, which has a kingdomover the kings of the earth.”
