Numbers 29 - 30

The Various Offerings of the Seventh Month

‘Now in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall also have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. It will be to you a day for blowing trumpets.
2 And you shall offer a burnt offering as a soothing aroma to Yahweh: one bull from the herd, one ram, and seven male lambs one year old without blemish; 3 also their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the ram, 4 and one-tenth for each of the seven lambs. 5 And offer one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you, 6 besides the burnt offering of the new moon and its grain offering, and the continual burnt offering and its grain offering, and their drink offerings, according to their legal judgment, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to Yahweh. 7 ‘Then on the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall humble yourselves; you shall not do any work. 8 And you shall bring near a burnt offering to Yahweh as a soothing aroma: one bull from the herd, one ram, seven male lambs one year old, having them without blemish; 9 and their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for the bull, two-tenths for the one ram, 10 a tenth for each of the seven lambs; 11 one male goat for a sin offering, besides the sin offering of atonement and the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and their drink offerings. 12 ‘Then on the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work, and you shall celebrate a feast to Yahweh for seven days. 13 And you shall bring near a burnt offering, an offering by fire as a soothing aroma to Yahweh: thirteen bulls from the herd, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old, which are without blemish; 14 and their grain offering, fine flour mixed with oil: three-tenths of an ephah for each of the thirteen bulls, two-tenths for each of the two rams, 15 and a tenth for each of the fourteen lambs; 16 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering, and its drink offering. 17 ‘Then on the second day: twelve bulls from the herd, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 18 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 19 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and their drink offerings. 20 ‘Then on the third day: eleven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 21 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 22 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and its drink offering. 23 ‘Then on the fourth day: ten bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 24 their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 25 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offering. 26 ‘Then on the fifth day: nine bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 27 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 28 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and its drink offering. 29 ‘Then on the sixth day: eight bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 30 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 31 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offerings. 32 ‘Then on the seventh day: seven bulls, two rams, fourteen male lambs one year old without blemish; 33 and their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bulls, for the rams and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 34 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering, its grain offering and its drink offering. 35 ‘On the eighth day you shall have a solemn assembly; you shall do no laborious work. 36 But you shall bring near a burnt offering, an offering by fire, as a soothing aroma to Yahweh: one bull, one ram, seven male lambs one year old without blemish; 37 their grain offering and their drink offerings for the bull, for the ram and for the lambs, by their number according to the legal judgment; 38 and one male goat for a sin offering, besides the continual burnt offering and its grain offering and its drink offering. 39 ‘You shall offer these to Yahweh at your appointed times, besides your votive offerings and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings and for your grain offerings and for your drink offerings and for your peace offerings.’” 40 And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel according to all that Yahweh had commanded Moses.

The Statutes for Vows

Then Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the sons of Israel, saying, “This is the word which Yahweh has commanded.
2 If a man makes a vow to Yahweh or swears an oath to bind himself with a binding obligation, he shall not violate his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. 3 “Also if a woman makes a vow to Yahweh and binds herself by an obligation in her father’s house in her youth, 4 and her father hears her vow and her obligation by which she has bound herself, and her father says nothing to her, then all her vows shall stand, and every obligation by which she has bound herself shall stand. 5 But if her father should forbid her on the day he hears of it, none of her vows or her obligations by which she has bound herself shall stand; and Yahweh will pardon her because her father had forbidden her. 6 “However, if she should marry while under her vows or the rash statement of her lips by which she has bound herself, 7 and her husband hears of it and says nothing to her on the day he hears it, then her vows shall stand, and her obligations by which she has bound herself shall stand. 8 But if, on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he shall annul her vow which she is under and the rash statement of her lips by which she has bound herself; and Yahweh will pardon her. 9 “But the vow of a widow or of a divorced woman, everything by which she has bound herself, shall stand against her. 10 However, if she vowed in her husband’s house or bound herself by an obligation with an oath, 11 and her husband heard it but said nothing to her and did not forbid her, then all her vows shall stand, and every obligation by which she bound herself shall stand. 12 But if her husband indeed annuls them on the day he hears them, then whatever proceeds out of her lips concerning her vows or concerning the obligation of herself shall not stand; her husband has annulled them, and Yahweh will pardon her. 13 “Every vow and every binding oath to humble herself, her husband may cause it to stand, or her husband may annul it. 14 But if her husband indeed says nothing to her from day to day, then he causes all her vows or all her obligations which are on her to stand; he has caused them to stand because he said nothing to her on the day he heard them. 15 But if he indeed annuls them after he has heard them, then he shall bear her guilt.” 16 These are the statutes which Yahweh commanded Moses, as between a man and his wife, and as between a father and his daughter, while she is in her youth in her father’s house.

Romans 10

Brothers, my heart’s desire and my prayer to God for them is for their salvation.
2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For not knowing about the righteousness of God and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Faith Comes by Hearing

5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of law: “The man who does these things shall live by them.”
6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down), 7 or ‘Who will go down into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, leading to righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, leading to salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes upon Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him, 13 for “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who proclaim good news of good things!” 16 However, they did not all heed the good news, for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 18 But I say, have they never heard? On the contrary, they have;
Their voice has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the ends of the world.”
19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says,
“I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation,
By a nation without understanding will I anger you.”
20 And Isaiah is very bold and says,
“I was found by those who did not seek Me,
I became manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”
21 But as for Israel He says, “All day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”

Psalm 104

The Glory of Yahweh Endures Forever

Bless Yahweh, O my soul!
O Yahweh my God, You are very great;
You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
2
Wrapping Yourself with light as with a cloak,
Stretching out the heavens like a tent curtain.
3
He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters;
He sets up the clouds to be His chariot;
He walks upon the wings of the wind;
4
He makes His angels the winds,
His ministers flaming fire.

5
He founded the earth upon its place,
So that it will not shake forever and ever.
6
You covered it with the deep as with a garment;
The waters were standing above the mountains.
7
At Your rebuke they fled,
At the sound of Your thunder they hurried away in alarm.
8
The mountains went up; the valleys went down
To the place which You founded for them.
9
You set a boundary that they may not pass over,
So that they will not return to cover the earth.

10
He sends forth springs in the valleys;
They flow between the mountains;
11
They give water to every beast of the field;
The wild donkeys quench their thirst.
12
Above them the birds of the heavens dwell;
They give forth their voices among the branches.
13
He gives water to the mountains from His upper chambers;
The earth is satisfied with the fruit of His works.

14
He causes the grass to grow for the cattle,
And vegetation for man’s cultivation,
To bring forth food from the earth,
15
And wine which makes man’s heart glad,
To make his face glisten more than oil,
And food which sustains man’s heart.
16
The trees of Yahweh are satisfied,
The cedars of Lebanon which He planted,
17
Where the birds build their nests,
The stork’s home is in the fir trees.

18
The high mountains are for the wild goats;
The cliffs are a refuge for the shephanim.
19
He made the moon for the seasons;
The sun knows the place of its setting.
20
You appoint darkness so that it becomes night,
In which all the beasts of the forest creep about.
21
The young lions roar to go after their prey
And to seek their food from God.
22
When the sun rises they gather together
And lie down in their dens.
23
Man goes forth to his work
And to his labor until evening.

24
How numerous are Your works, O Yahweh!
In wisdom You have made them all;
The earth is full of Your possessions.
25
This is the sea, great and broad,
There the creeping things are without number,
Creatures both small and great.
26
There the ships move along,
And Leviathan, which You have formed to play in it.

27
They all wait for You
To give them their food in due season.
28
You give to them, they gather it up;
You open Your hand, they are satisfied with good.
29
You hide Your face, they are dismayed;
You take away their spirit, they breathe their last
And return to their dust.
30
You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;
And You renew the face of the ground.

31
Let the glory of Yahweh endure forever;
Let Yahweh be glad in His works;
32
He looks at the earth, and it trembles;
He touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33
I will sing to Yahweh throughout my life;
I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
34
Let my musing be pleasing to Him;
As for me, I shall be glad in Yahweh.
35
Let sinners be consumed from the earth
And let the wicked be no more.
Bless Yahweh, O my soul.
Praise Yah!
