Exodus 29 - 30

Setting Apart the Priests

29“aNow this is 1what you shall do to them to set them apart as holy to minister as priests to Me: take one bull from the herd and two rams without blemish, 2and aunleavened bread and unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers 1spread with oil; you shall make them of fine wheat flour. 3“And you shall put them in one basket and bring them near in the basket along with the bull and the two rams. 4“Then ayou shall bring Aaron and his sons near to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water. 5“And you shall take the garments, and put on Aaron the atunic and bthe robe of the ephod and cthe ephod and dthe 1breastpiece, and gird him with the skillfully ewoven band of the ephod; 6and you shall set the aturban on his head and put bthe holy crown on the turban. 7“Then you shall take athe anointing oil and pour it on his head and anoint him. 8“And you shall bring his sons near and put atunics on them. 9“You shall gird them with asashes, Aaron and his sons, and bind 1caps on them, and they shall have bthe priesthood by a perpetual statute. So you shall 2,cordain Aaron and his sons.

Slaughtering the Offerings

10“Then you shall bring the bull near before the tent of meeting, and Aaron and his sons shall alay their hands on the head of the bull. 11“You shall slaughter the bull before Yahweh at the doorway of the tent of meeting. 12“You shall atake some of the blood of the bull and put it on bthe horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the blood at the base of the altar. 13“You shall atake all the fat that covers the entrails and the 1lobe of the liver and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them, and you shall offer them up in smoke on the altar. 14“But athe flesh of the bull and its hide and its refuse, you shall burn with fire outside the camp; it is a sin offering.
15“aYou shall also take the one ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram; 16and you shall slaughter the ram, and you shall take its blood and splash it around on the altar. 17“Then you shall cut the ram into its pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs, and put them 1with its pieces and 2its head. 18“You shall offer up in smoke the whole ram on the altar; it is a burnt offering to Yahweh: ait is a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to Yahweh.
19“Then ayou shall take the second ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram. 20“You shall slaughter the ram, and take some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear and on the lobes of his sons’ right ears and on the thumbs of their right hands and on the big toes of their right feet, and splash the rest of the blood around on the altar. 21“Then you shall take some of the blood that is on the altar and some of the aanointing oil, and sprinkle it on Aaron and on his garments and on his sons and on his sons’ garments with him; so he and his garments shall be set apart as holy, as well as his sons and his sons’ garments with him.
22“You shall also take the fat from the ram and the fat tail and the fat that covers the entrails and the 1lobe of the liver and the two kidneys and the fat that is on them and the right thigh (for it is a ram of 2ordination), 23and one cake of bread and aone cake of bread mixed with oil and one wafer from the basket of unleavened bread which is set before Yahweh; 24and you shall put 1all these 2in the 3hands of Aaron and 4in the 5hands of his sons, and you shall wave them as a wave offering before Yahweh. 25“aYou shall take them from their hands and offer them up in smoke on the altar on the burnt offering for a soothing aroma before Yahweh; it is an offering by fire to Yahweh.
26“Then you shall take athe breast of Aaron’s ram of 1ordination and wave it as a wave offering before Yahweh; and it shall be your portion. 27“You shall set apart as holy the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the 1contribution offering which was waved and which was 2raised up as a contribution from the ram of 3ordination, from the one which was for Aaron and from the one which was for his sons. 28“It shall be for Aaron and his sons as a perpetual statute from the sons of Israel, for it is a 1contribution offering; and it shall be a 2contribution offering from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, even their 3contribution offering to Yahweh.
29“aThe holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, 1that in them they may be anointed and ordained. 30“For seven days the one of his sons who is priest in his stead shall put them on when he comes into the tent of meeting to minister in the holy place.

Yahweh Will Meet and Speak to Israel

31“You shall take the ram of 1ordination and aboil its flesh in a holy place. 32“Aaron and his sons shall eat the flesh of the ram and the bread that is in the basket, at the doorway of the tent of meeting. 33“Thus athey shall eat 1those things by which atonement was made 2to ordain them, 3to set them apart as holy; but a 4,blayman shall not eat them, because they are holy. 34“aIf any of the flesh of 1ordination or any of the bread remains until morning, then you shall burn the remainder with fire; it shall not be eaten, because it is holy.
35“Thus you shall do to Aaron and to his sons, according to all that I have commanded you; you shall 1ordain them through aseven days. 36“aEach day you shall offer a bull as a sin offering for atonement, and you shall 1purify the altar when you make atonement 2for it, and byou shall anoint it to set it apart as holy. 37“For seven days you shall make atonement 1for the altar and set it apart as holy; then athe altar shall be most holy, and whatever touches the altar shall be holy.
38“Now athis is what you shall offer on the altar: two one year old lambs each day, continuously. 39“The aone lamb you shall offer in the morning, and the second lamb you shall offer 1at twilight; 40and there shall be 1one-tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with one-fourth of a 2hin of beaten oil, and one-fourth of a hin of wine for a drink offering with the one lamb. 41“The second lamb you shall offer 1at twilight, and you shall offer with it 2the same grain offering and 3the same drink offering as in the morning, for a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to Yahweh. 42“It shall be a continual burnt offering throughout your generations at the doorway of the tent of meeting before Yahweh, awhere I will meet with you, to speak to you there. 43“I will meet there with the sons of Israel, and it shall be set apart as holy by My glory. 44“I will set the tent of meeting and the altar apart as holy; I will also set Aaron and his sons apart as holy to minister as priests to Me. 45“aI will dwell among the sons of Israel and will be their God. 46“They shall know that aI am Yahweh their God who brought them out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them; I am Yahweh their God.

The Altar of Incense

30“Moreover, you shall make aan altar as a place for burning incense; you shall make it of acacia wood. 2“Its length shall be a 1cubit, and its width a cubit; it shall be square. And its height shall be two cubits; its horns shall be 2of the same piece. 3“You shall overlay it with pure gold, its top and its 1sides all around, and its horns; and you shall make a gold molding all around for it. 4“You shall make two gold rings for it under its molding; you shall make them on its two side walls—on 1opposite sides—and 2they shall be holders for poles with which to carry it. 5“You shall make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 6“You shall put 1this altar in front of the veil that is 2near the ark of the testimony, in front of the 3,amercy seat that is over the testimony, where I will meet with you. 7“Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it; he shall burn it every morning when he trims the lamps. 8“When Aaron 1trims the lamps 2at twilight, he shall burn incense. There shall be continual incense before Yahweh throughout your generations. 9“You shall not offer any strange incense on 1this altar or burnt offering or grain offering; and you shall not pour out a drink offering on it. 10“Aaron shall amake atonement on its horns once a year; he shall make atonement on it with the blood of the sin offering of atonement once a year throughout your generations. It is most holy to Yahweh.”

The Census and the Atonement Price

11Yahweh also spoke to Moses, saying, 12“When you take aa 1census of the sons of Israel 2to number them, then each one of them shall give ba price of atonement for 3himself to Yahweh when you 4number them, so that there will be no plague among them when you 5number them. 13“This is what everyone who 1is numbered shall give: half a 2shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (athe shekel is twenty 3gerahs), half a shekel as a 4contribution to Yahweh. 14“Everyone who 1is numbered, from twenty years old and over, shall give the 2contribution to Yahweh. 15“The rich shall not pay more and the poor shall not pay less than the half shekel when you give the 1contribution to Yahweh to make atonement for your souls. 16“And you shall take the atonement money from the sons of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may be a remembrance for the sons of Israel before Yahweh, to make atonement for your souls.”

The Laver for the Priestly Washing

17And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 18“You shall also make aa laver of 1bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing; and you shall bput it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it. 19“And Aaron and his sons shall awash their hands and their feet from it; 20when they come into the tent of meeting, they shall wash with water, so that they will not die; or when they approach the altar to minister, by offering up in smoke a fire sacrifice to Yahweh. 21“So they shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they will not die; and ait shall be a perpetual statute for them, for 1Aaron and his seed throughout their generations.”

The Holy Anointing Oil

22Moreover, Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 23“But as for you, take for yourself the finest of spices: of flowing myrrh 500 shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, 250, and of fragrant cane 250, 24and of cassia 500, according to the shekel of the sanctuary, and of olive oil a 1hin. 25“And you shall make 1of these a holy anointing oil, a perfume mixture, the work of a perfumer; it shall be aa holy anointing oil. 26“And with it ayou shall anoint the tent of meeting and the ark of the testimony, 27and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and the altar of incense, 28and the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the laver and its stand. 29“You shall also set them apart as holy, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy. 30“aAnd you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and you shall set them apart as holy, that they may minister as priests to Me. 31“And you shall speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. 32‘It shall not be poured on 1anyone’s body, nor shall you make any like it in 2the same specifications; ait is holy, and it shall be holy to you. 33‘aWhoever shall mix any like it or whoever puts any of it on a 1layman 2,bshall be cut off from his people.’”

The Incense

34Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Take for yourself fragrances, stacte and onycha and galbanum, fragrances with pure frankincense; there shall be an equal part of each. 35“With it you shall make incense, a perfume, the work of a perfumer, salted, pure, and holy. 36“You shall beat some of it very fine, and you shall put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting awhere I will meet with you; it shall be most holy to you. 37“The incense which you shall make, ayou shall not make in 1the same specifications for yourselves; it shall be holy to you for Yahweh. 38“aWhoever shall make any like it, to 1use as perfume, 2shall be cut off from his people.”

John 10 - 11

I Am the Good Shepherd

10“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is aa thief and a robber. 2“But he who enters by the door is aa shepherd of the sheep. 3“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear ahis voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and bleads them out. 4“When he brings all his own out, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know ahis voice. 5“A stranger they will never follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know athe voice of strangers.” 6This afigure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.
7So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am athe door of the sheep. 8“All who came before Me are athieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. 9“aI am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they amay have life, and 1have it abundantly.
11“aI am the good shepherd; the good shepherd blays down His life for the sheep. 12“He who is a hired hand, and not a ashepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees—and the wolf snatches and scatters them— 13because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. 14“aI am the good shepherd, and bI know My own and My own know Me, 15even as athe Father knows Me and I know the Father; and bI lay down My life for the sheep. 16“And I have aother sheep, which are not from this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become bone flock with cone shepherd. 17“For this reason the Father loves Me, because I alay down My life so that I may take it again. 18“aNo one 1takes it away from Me, but from Myself, I blay it down. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. cThis commandment I received from My Father.”
19aA division occurred again among the Jews because of these words. 20And many of them were saying, “He ahas a demon and bis insane. Why do you listen to Him?” 21Others were saying, “These are not the words of someone ademon-possessed. bCan a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

I and the Father Are One

22At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the Portico of aSolomon. 24aThe Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long 1will You keep us in suspense? If You are the 2Christ, tell us bopenly.” 25Jesus answered them, “aI told you, and you do not believe; bthe works that I do in My Father’s name, these bear witness of Me. 26“But you do not believe because ayou are not of My sheep. 27“My sheep ahear My voice, and bI know them, and they follow Me; 28and I give aeternal life to them, and they will never perish—ever; and bno one will snatch them out of My hand. 29“1My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30“aI and the Father are 1one.”
31The Jews apicked up stones again to stone Him. 32Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” 33The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for ablasphemy; and because You, being a man, bmake Yourself God.” 34Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in ayour bLaw, ‘cI said, you are gods’? 35“If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36do you say of Him, whom the Father asanctified and bsent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘cI am the Son of God’? 37“aIf I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe athe works, so that you may know and continue knowing that bthe Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” 39Therefore athey were seeking again to seize Him, and bHe eluded their grasp.
40And He went away aagain beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there. 41And many came to Him and were saying, “While John did no asign, yet beverything John said about this man was true.” 42aAnd many believed in Him there.

The Death and Resurrection of Lazarus

11Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from aBethany, the village of Mary and her sister bMartha. 2And it was the Mary who aanointed bthe Lord with perfume, and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick. 3So the sisters sent to Him, saying, “aLord, behold, bhe whom You love is sick.” 4But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not to end in death, but is for athe glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” 5Now Jesus loved aMartha and her sister and Lazarus. 6So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days in the place where He was. 7Then after this He *said to the disciples, “aLet us go to Judea again.” 8The disciples *said to Him, “aRabbi, the Jews were just now seeking bto stone You, and are You going there again?” 9Jesus answered, “aAre there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10“But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” 11He said these things, and after that He *said to them, “Our afriend Lazarus bhas fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him.” 12The disciples then said to Him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will 1be saved from his sickness.” 13Now aJesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of 1actual sleep. 14So Jesus then said to them 1plainly, “Lazarus is dead, 15and I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe; but let us go to him.” 16aTherefore Thomas, who is called 1,bDidymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, so that we may die with Him.”
17So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb afour days. 18Now aBethany was near Jerusalem, about 1fifteen stadia away; 19and many of athe Jews had come to bMartha and Mary, cto console them about their brother. 20aMartha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet Him, but bMary was sitting in the house. 21Martha then said to Jesus, “aLord, bif You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22“But even now I know that awhatever You ask from God, God will give You.” 23Jesus *said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24Martha *said to Him, “aI know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25Jesus said to her, “aI am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26and everyone who lives and believes in Me awill never die—ever. Do you believe this?” 27She *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; I have believed that You are athe 1Christ, the Son of God, 2,bthe One who comes into the world.”
28And when she had said this, she awent away and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, “bThe Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29And when she heard it, she *got up quickly and was coming to Him.
30Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but awas still in the place where Martha met Him. 31aThen the Jews—who were with her in the house and bconsoling her—when they saw that Mary rose up quickly and went out, they followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb to cry there. 32Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was, she saw Him, and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “aLord, bif You had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33When Jesus therefore saw her crying, and athe Jews who came with her also crying, He bwas 1deeply moved in spirit and 2,cwas troubled, 34and said, “Where have you laid him?” They *said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” 35Jesus awept. 36So athe Jews were saying, “See how He bloved him!” 37But some of them said, “Could not this man, who aopened the eyes of the blind man, 1have kept this man also from dying?”
38So Jesus, again being 1deeply moved within, *came to the tomb. Now it was a acave, and a stone was lying against it. 39Jesus *said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, *said to Him, “Lord, by this time he smells, for he has been dead afour days.” 40Jesus *said to her, “aDid I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” 41So they removed the astone. Then Jesus braised His eyes, and said, “cFather, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42“And I knew that You always hear Me; but abecause of the crowd standing around I said this, so that they may believe that bYou sent Me.” 43And when He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.” 44The man who had died came forth, abound hand and foot with wrappings, and bhis face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus *said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
45aTherefore many of the Jews bwho came to Mary, and csaw what He had done, believed in Him. 46But some of them went to the aPharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

The Leaders Plot to Kill Jesus

47Therefore athe chief priests and the Pharisees bgathered the 1,cSanhedrin together, and were saying, “What are we doing? For this man is doing many 2,dsigns. 48“If we let Him go on like this, all will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our aplace and our nation.” 49But one of them, aCaiaphas, bwho was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, 50nor do you take into account that ait is better for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” 51Now he did not say this from himself, but abeing high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, 52and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also agather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53So from that day on they aplanned together to kill Him.
54Therefore Jesus ano longer continued to walk openly among the Jews, but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, into a city called bEphraim; and there He stayed with the disciples.
55Now athe Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up to Jerusalem from the region before the Passover bto purify themselves. 56So they awere seeking Jesus, and were saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? That He will not come to the feast at all?” 57Now athe chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where He was, he was to report it, so that they might seize Him.

Selah.20God is to us a aGod of 1salvation;And bto Yahweh the Lord belong escapes 2from death.21Surely God will acrush the head of His enemies,The hairy 1skull of him who goes on in his guilty deeds.22The Lord 1said, “aI will bring them back from Bashan.I will bring them back from the depths of the sea;23That 1,ayour foot may crush them in blood,The tongue of your bdogs may have its portion from your enemies.”24They have seen aYour 1procession, O God,The 2procession of my God, my King, 3,binto the sanctuary.25The asingers went on, the musicians after them,1In the midst of the bmaidens beating tambourines.26aBless God in the congregations,Yahweh, the bfountain of Israel.27There is aBenjamin, the 1youngest, 2having dominion over them,The princes of Judah in their throng,The princes of bZebulun, the princes of Naphtali.281Your God has acommanded your strength;Show Yourself strong, O God, bwho has worked 2on our behalf.291Because of Your temple at JerusalemaKings will bring gifts to You.30Rebuke the abeast 1in the reeds,The herd of bbulls with the calves of the peoples,Trampling under foot the pieces of silver;He has ccast out the peoples who delight in war.31Envoys will come out of aEgypt;1,bEthiopia will quickly stretch out her hands to God.32Sing to God, O akingdoms of the earth,bSing praises to the Lord, Selah.33To Him who arides upon the 1,bhighest heavens, which are from ancient times;Behold, cHe gives forth His voice, a dvoice that is strong.34aAscribe strength to God;His majesty is over IsraelAnd bHis strength is in the 1skies.351O God, You are aawesome from Your 2sanctuary.The God of Israel Himself bgives strength and might to the people.cBlessed be God!
