The River of Yahweh’s House

47Then he brought me back to the ^adoor of the house; and behold, ^bwater was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar. ²He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around by way of the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.

³When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured ¹one thousand cubits, and he had me pass through the water, water reaching the ankles. ⁴Again he measured one thousand and had me pass through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured one thousand and had me pass through the water, water reaching the loins. ⁵Again he measured one thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had become high—enough water to swim in, a ^ariver that could not be passed through. ⁶And he said to me, “Son of man, have you ^aseen this?” Then he led and returned me back to the bank of the river. ⁷When I had returned, now behold, on the bank of the river there were very many ^atrees on the one side and on the other. ⁸Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the ^aArabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow out to the ^bsea, and the waters of the sea ¹will be healed. ⁹“And it will be that every living creature, which swarms in every place where the ¹river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the other waters ²are healed; so ^aeverything will live where the river goes. ¹⁰“And it will be that ^afishermen will stand beside it; from ^bEngedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the ^cspreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the ^dGreat Sea, ^every many. ¹¹“But its marshes and swamps will not be ¹healed; they will be ²left for ^asalt. ¹²“^aAnd by the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of ^btrees for food. Their ^cleaves will not wither, and their fruit will not ¹fail. They will bear every month because their water flows out from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their ^dleaves for healing.”

Apportionment of the Land

¹³Thus says Lord Yahweh, “This shall be the ^aboundary by which you shall apportion the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel; Joseph shall have two ^bportions. ¹⁴“You shall then apportion it for an inheritance, each one ¹equally with the other; for I ²^,^aswore to give it to your fathers, and this land shall fall to you ³as an inheritance.

¹⁵“This shall be the boundary of the land: on the ^anorth side, from the Great Sea by the way of Hethlon, to the entrance of ¹^,^bZedad; ¹⁶¹^,^aHamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of ^bDamascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer-hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran. ¹⁷“And the boundary shall be from the sea to ^aHazar-enan at the border of Damascus, and on the north toward the north is the border of Hamath. This is the north side.

¹⁸“And the ^aeast side, from between Hauran, Damascus, ^bGilead, and the land of Israel, shall be the ^cJordan; from the north border to the eastern sea you shall measure. This is the east side.

¹⁹“And the ^asouth side toward the south shall extend from ^bTamar as far as the waters of ^cMeribath-kadesh, to the ^dbrook of Egypt and to the ^eGreat Sea. This is the south side toward the south.

²⁰“And the ^awest side shall be the Great Sea, from the south border to a point opposite ¹^,^bLebo-hamath. This is the west side.

²¹“So you shall divide this land among yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. ²²“And it will be that you shall divide it by ^alot for an inheritance among yourselves and among the ^bsojourners who sojourn in your midst, who bring forth sons in your midst. And they shall be to you as the native-born among the sons of Israel. They shall be allotted an ^cinheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. ²³“And it will be that in the tribe with which the sojourner sojourns, there you shall give him his inheritance,” declares Lord Yahweh.

Christ’s Sacrifice Once for All

10For the Law, since it has only ^aa shadow of ^bthe good things to come and not the very ¹form of things, ²can ^cnever, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, ^dmake perfect those who draw near. ²Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have ^aconsciousness of sins? ³But ^ain ¹those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins year by year. ⁴For it is ^aimpossible for the ^bblood of bulls and goats to take away sins. ⁵Therefore, ^awhen He comes into the world, He says, “^bSacrifice and offering You have not desired,But ^ca body You have prepared for Me;

⁶^aIn burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure.⁷“^aThen I said, ‘Behold, I have come,In ^bthe scroll of the book it is written of Me,To do Your will, O God.’”

⁸After saying above, “^aSacrifices and offerings and ^bburnt offerings and sacrifices ^cfor sin You have not desired, nor have You taken pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹then He ¹said, “^aBehold, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. ¹⁰By ¹this will we have been ^asanctified through ^bthe offering of ^cthe body of Jesus Christ ^donce for all.

¹¹And every priest stands daily ministering and ^aoffering time after time the same sacrifices, which ^bcan never take away sins; ¹²but He, having offered one sacrifice ^afor ¹sins ^bfor all time, ^csat down at the right hand of God, ¹³waiting from that time ^auntil His enemies are put as a footstool for His feet. ¹⁴For by one offering He has ^aperfected ^bfor all time those who are being sanctified. ¹⁵And ^athe Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,

¹⁶“^aThis is the covenant that I will make with themAfter those days, says the ¹Lord:I will put My laws upon their heart,And on their mind I will write them,” He then says,¹⁷“^aAnd their sins and their lawless deedsI will remember no more.”

¹⁸Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.

A New and Living Way

¹⁹Therefore, brothers, since we ^ahave confidence to ^benter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰by ^aa new and living way which He inaugurated for us through ^bthe veil, that is, His flesh, ²¹and since we have ^aa great priest ^bover the house of God, ²²let us ^adraw near with a ¹sincere heart in ^bfull assurance of faith, having our hearts ^csprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies ^dwashed with pure water. ²³Let us hold fast the ^aconfession of our ^bhope without wavering, for ^cHe who promised is faithful. ²⁴And let us consider how ^ato stimulate one another to love and ^bgood deeds, ²⁵not forsaking our own ^aassembling together, as is the habit of some, but ^bencouraging one another, and all the more as you see ^cthe day drawing near.

Warning Against Willful Sin

²⁶For if we go on ^asinning willfully after receiving ^bthe knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, ²⁷but a terrifying expectation of ^ajudgment and ^bthe fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. ²⁸^aAnyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy by the mouth of two or three witnesses. ²⁹^aHow much worse punishment do you think he will deserve ^bwho has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as defiled ^cthe blood of the covenant ^dby which he was sanctified, and has ^einsulted the Spirit of grace? ³⁰For we know Him who said, “^aVengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “^bThe ¹Lord will judge His people.” ³¹It is a ^aterrifying thing to fall into the hands of the ^bliving God.

³²But remember ^athe former days, ¹when, after being ^benlightened, you endured a great ^cconflict of sufferings, ³³partly by being ^amade a public spectacle through reproaches and afflictions, and partly by becoming ^bsharers with those who were so treated. ³⁴For you also ^ashowed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted with ^bjoy the seizure of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves ^ca better and lasting possession. ³⁵Therefore, do not throw away that ^aconfidence of yours, which has a great ^breward. ³⁶For you have need of ^aendurance, so that when you have ^bdone the will of God, you may ^creceive the promise.

³⁷^aFor yet in a very little while,^bHe who is coming will come, and will not delay.³⁸^aBut My righteous one shall live by faith,And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

³⁹But ¹we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the ²preserving of the soul.

15A ^agentle answer turns away wrath,But a ¹^,^bharsh word stirs up anger.²The ^atongue of the wise makes knowledge look good,But the ^bmouth of ¹fools pours forth ²folly.³The ^aeyes of Yahweh are in every place,Watching the evil and the good.⁴A tongue that brings healing is a tree of life,But perversion in it breaks the spirit.⁵An ignorant fool spurns his father’s discipline,But he who keeps reproof is prudent.⁶The house of the ^arighteous has much treasure,But in the income of the wicked there is trouble.⁷The lips of the wise disperse knowledge,But the hearts of fools are not so.⁸The ^asacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh,But ^bthe prayer of the upright is His delight.⁹The way of the wicked is an abomination to Yahweh,But He loves one who ^apursues righteousness.¹⁰Grievous discipline is for him who forsakes the way;He who hates reproof will die.¹¹^aSheol and Abaddon lie open before Yahweh,How much more the ^bhearts of the sons of men!¹²A ^ascoffer does not love one who reproves him,He will not go to the wise.¹³A ^aglad heart makes a face look good,But ¹when the heart is ^bpained, the ^cspirit is broken.¹⁴The ^aheart of the one who has understanding seeks knowledge,But the mouth of fools feeds on folly.¹⁵All the days of the afflicted are evil,But a good heart has a continual feast.¹⁶^aBetter is a little with the ¹fear of YahwehThan great treasure and turmoil with it.¹⁷^aBetter is a ¹dish of ²vegetables where there is loveThan a ^bfattened ox and hatred in it.¹⁸A ^ahot-tempered man stirs up strife,But the ^bslow to anger ^cquiets a dispute.¹⁹The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns,But the path of the upright is a highway.²⁰A ^awise son makes a father glad,But a foolish man ^bdespises his mother.²¹Folly is gladness to him who lacks a heart of wisdom,But a man of discernment ^awalks straight.²²Without consultation, ¹plans are frustrated,But with many counselors they ²succeed.²³A ^aman has gladness in an ¹apt answer,And how good is a timely ^bword!²⁴The ^apath of life leads upward for the one who has insightThat he may turn away from Sheol below.²⁵Yahweh will ^atear down the house of the proud,But He will ^bcause the boundary of the ^cwidow to stand.²⁶Evil thoughts are an abomination to Yahweh,But pleasant words are pure.²⁷He who is ^agreedy for gain troubles his own house,But he who ^bhates gifts of bribery will live.²⁸The heart of the righteous ^aponders how to answer,But the ^bmouth of the wicked pours forth evil things.²⁹Yahweh is ^afar from the wicked,But He ^bhears the prayer of the righteous.³⁰¹Bright eyes gladden the heart;A good report puts fat on the bones.³¹He whose ear listens to the life-giving reproofWill lodge among the wise.³²He who ^aneglects discipline ^bdespises his soul,But he who ^clistens to reproof acquires a heart of wisdom.³³The ¹fear of Yahweh is the discipline ²leading to wisdom,And before glory comes humility.
