Isaiah 16 - 17

16aSend the tribute lamb to the ruler of the land,From 1,bSela by way of the wilderness to the cmountain of the daughter of Zion.2Then, like 1,afleeing birds or scattered 2nestlings,The daughters of bMoab will be at the fords of the cArnon.3Bring us counsel, make a decision;1Cast your ashadow like night 2at high noon;bHide those banished, do not reveal the one who flees.4Let the 1banished of Moab sojourn with you;Be a hiding place to them from the destroyer.”For the extortioner has come to an end, destruction has ceased,aOppressors have completely disappeared from the land.5And a athrone will be established in lovingkindness,And a judge will sit on it in truth in the tent of bDavid; Moreover, he will seek justiceAnd be prompt in righteousness.6aWe have heard of the pride of Moab, an excessive pride;Even of his lofty pride, pride, and fury;bHis idle boasts are 1false.7Therefore Moab will wail; everyone of Moab will wail. You will moan for the araisin cakes of bKir-haresethAs those who are utterly stricken.8For the fields of aHeshbon have languished, the vines of bSibmah as well; The lords of the nations have trampled down its choice clustersWhich reached as far as Jazer and wandered to the deserts;cIts tendrils spread themselves out and passed over the sea.9Therefore I will aweep bitterly for Jazer, for the vine of Sibmah;I will drench you with my tears, O bHeshbon and Elealeh; For the shouting over your csummer fruits and your harvest has fallen away.10aGladness and joy are taken away from the fruitful orchard; In the bvineyards also there will be no cries of joy or shouts of jubilation,No ctreader treads out wine in the presses,For I have made the shouting to cease.11Therefore my 1,ainner being moans like a harp for MoabAnd my 2inward feelings for Kir-hareseth.12So it will be when Moab aappears,When he bwearies himself upon his chigh placeAnd comes to his sanctuary to pray,That he will not prevail.
13This is the word which Yahweh spoke earlier concerning Moab. 14But now Yahweh speaks, saying, “Within three years, as 1,aa hired man would count them, the glory of bMoab will be dishonored along with all his great population, and his remnant will be very small and not mighty.”

An Oracle Concerning Damascus

17The 1,aoracle concerning bDamascus. Behold, Damascus is about to be cremoved from being a cityAnd will become a dfallen ruin.
2The cities 1of aAroer are forsaken; They will be for bflocks, and they will lie down in them; And there will be cno one to cause them to tremble.3And the 1,afortified city will cease from Ephraim,And 2sovereignty from DamascusAnd the remnant of Aram; They will be like the bglory of the sons of Israel,”Declares Yahweh of hosts.4Now it will be in that day, that the aglory of Jacob will 1wane,And bthe fatness of his flesh will become lean.5And it will be aeven like the 1reaper gathering the standing grain,As his arm harvests the ears of grain,Or it will be like one gleaning ears of grainIn the bvalley of Rephaim.6Yet agleanings will remain in it like the 1shaking of an olive tree,Two or three olives on the topmost branch,Four or five on the twigs of a fruitful tree,Declares Yahweh, the God of Israel.7In that day man will ahave regard for his MakerAnd his eyes will look to the Holy One of Israel.8He will not have regard for the aaltars, the work of his hands,Nor will he look to that which his bfingers have made,Even the 1,cAsherim and 2incense stands.9In that day 1their strong cities will be like 2forsaken places in the forest,Or like 3branches which they forsook before the sons of Israel; And 4the land will be a desolation.10For ayou have forgotten the bGod of your salvationAnd have not remembered the crock of your strong defense. Therefore you plant delightful plantsAnd set them with vine branches of a strange god.11In the day that you plant it you carefully fence it in,And in the amorning you cause your seed to flourish; But the harvest will bbe a heapIn a day of sickliness and incurable pain.12Alas, the uproar of many peoplesaWho roar like the roaring of the seas,And the rumbling of nationsWho rumble on like the brumbling of mighty waters!13The anations rumble on like the rumbling of many waters,But He will brebuke them, and they will flee far away,And be pursued clike chaff in the mountains before the wind,Or like whirling dust before a whirlwind.14At evening time, behold, there is terror! Before morning athey are no more.1Such will be the portion of those who pillage usAnd the lot of those who plunder us.

Luke 10

The Seventy Sent Out

10Now after this athe Lord appointed 1seventy bothers, and sent them cin pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. 2And He was saying to them, aThe harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. 3Go! aBehold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. 4aCarry no money belt, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one on the way. 5Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace be to this house.’ 6And if a 1man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him, but if not, it will return to you. 7Stay in 1that house, eating and drinking 2what they give you; for athe laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not keep moving from house to house. 8And whatever city you enter and they receive you, aeat what is set before you; 9and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them, ‘aThe kingdom of God has come near to you.’ 10But in whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, 11aEven the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off against you; yet know this, that bthe kingdom of God is at hand.’ 12I say to you, ait will be more tolerable in that day for bSodom than for that city.
13aWoe to you, bChorazin! Woe to you, cBethsaida! For if the 1miracles had been performed in dTyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in 2,esackcloth and ashes. 14But it will be more tolerable for aTyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. 15And you, aCapernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to Hades!
16aThe one who listens to you listens to Me, and bthe one who rejects you rejects Me. And he who rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”

The Joyful Results

17Now the 1seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even athe demons are subject to us in Your name.” 18And He said to them, “I was watching aSatan fall from heaven like lightning. 19Behold, I have given you authority to atread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that ayour names are recorded in heaven.”
21aAt that very 1time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I 2praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. 22aAll things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and bno one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
23aAnd turning to the disciples, He said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see, 24for I say to you, that many prophets and kings wished to see the things which you see, and did not see them, and to hear the things which you hear, and did not hear them.

The Good Samaritan

25aAnd behold, a bscholar of the Law stood up and was putting Him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26And He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27And he answered and said, “aYou shall love the 1Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” 28And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; ado this and you will live.” 29But wishing ato justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30Jesus replied and said, “A man was agoing down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among robbers, and they stripped him and 1beat him, and went away leaving him half dead. 31And a priest happened to be going down on that road, and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32Likewise a Levite also, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33But a aSamaritan, who was on a journey, came upon him, and when he saw him, he felt compassion. 34And he came to him and bandaged up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them, and he put him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35And on the next day he took out two 1denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, when I return I will repay you.’ 36Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” 37And he said, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said to him, Go and do 1the same.”

Martha and Mary

38Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named aMartha welcomed Him into her home. 39And she had a sister called aMary, who was also bseated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. 40But aMartha was distracted with 1all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the 2preparations alone? Then tell her to help me.” 41But the Lord answered and said to her, aMartha, Martha, you are bworried and bothered about so many things, 42abut only one thing is necessary, for bMary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

Psalm 44

Rise Up, Be Our Help

44
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A 1Maskil.
O God, we have heard with our ears,Our afathers have recounted to usThe bwork that You did in their days,In the cdays of old.
2You with Your own hand adispossessed the nations; Then You bplanted them; You cafflicted the peoples,Then You dcast them out.3For by their own sword they adid not possess the land,And their own arm did not save them,But Your right hand and Your barm and the clight of Your presence,For You dfavored them.4You are amy King, O God;bCommand 1salvation for Jacob.5Through You we will apush back our adversaries;Through Your name we will btread down those who rise up against us.6For I will anot trust in my bow,And my sword will not save me.7But You ahave saved us from our adversaries,And You have bput to shame those who hate us.8In God we have aboasted all day long,And we will bgive thanks to Your name forever. 1 Selah.9Yet You ahave rejected us and brought us to bdishonor,And cdo not go out with our armies.10You cause us to aturn back from the adversary; And those who hate us bhave plundered us for themselves.11You give us as asheep 1to be eatenAnd have bscattered us among the nations.12You asell Your people 1for no amount,And You have not 2profited from their price.13You make us a areproach to our neighbors,A mockery and a bderision to those around us.14You make us aa byword among the nations,A 1,blaughingstock among the peoples.15All day long my dishonor is before meAnd 1the ashame of my face has covered me,16Because of the voice of him who areproaches and reviles,Because of the presence of the benemy and the avenger.17All this has come upon us, but we have anot forgotten You,And we have not bdealt falsely with Your covenant.18Our heart has not aturned back,Nor have our steps bdeviated from Your path,19Yet You have acrushed us in a place of bjackalsAnd covered us with cthe shadow of death.20If we had aforgotten the name of our GodOr spread our 1hands to ba strange god,21Would not God afind this out?For He knows the secrets of the heart.22But afor Your sake we are killed all day long;We are counted as bsheep for the slaughter.23aArouse Yourself, why bdo You sleep, O Lord?Awake, cdo not reject us forever.24Why do You ahide Your faceAnd bforget our affliction and our oppression?25For our asoul has sunk down into the dust; Our 1body cleaves to the earth.26aRise up, be our help,And bredeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.
