Yahweh’s Righteousness Is Forever

51“^aListen to Me, you who ^bpursue righteousness,Who seek Yahweh:Look to the ^crock from which you were hewnAnd to the ¹quarry from which you were dug.²“Look to ^aAbraham your fatherAnd to Sarah who brought you forth through labor pains;When he ^bwas but one I called him,Then I blessed him and multiplied him.”³Indeed, ^aYahweh will comfort Zion;He will comfort all her ^bwaste places.And her ^cwilderness He will make like ^dEden,And her desert like the ^egarden of Yahweh;^fJoy and gladness will be found in her,Thanksgiving and sound of a melody.⁴“^aPay attention to Me, O My people,And give ear to Me, O My ¹nation;For a ^blaw will go forth from Me,And I will ²set My ^cjustice for a ^dlight of the peoples.⁵“My ^arighteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth,And My ^barms will judge the peoples;The ^ccoastlands will hope in Me,And for My ^darm they will wait expectantly.⁶“^aLift up your eyes to the sky,Then look to the earth beneath;For the ^bsky will vanish like smoke,And the ^cearth will wear out like a garment,And its inhabitants will die ¹in like manner;But My ^dsalvation will be forever,And My righteousness will not be dismayed.⁷“^aListen to Me, you who know righteousness,A people in whose ^bheart is My law;Do not fear the ^creproach of man,Nor be dismayed at their revilings.⁸“For the ^amoth will eat them like a garment,And the ^bgrub will eat them like wool.But My ^crighteousness will be forever,And My salvation to all generations.”⁹^aAwake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Yahweh;Awake as in the ^bdays of old, the generations of long ago.^cWas it not You who chopped Rahab in pieces,Who pierced the ^ddragon?¹⁰Was it not You who ^adried up the sea,The waters of the great deep,Who made the depths of the sea a pathwayFor the ^bredeemed to cross over?¹¹So the ^aransomed of Yahweh will returnAnd come with joyful shouting to Zion,And ^beverlasting gladness will be on their heads.They will obtain joy and gladness,And ^csorrow and sighing will flee away.¹²“I, even I, am He who ^acomforts you.Who are you that you are afraid of ^bman who diesAnd of the son of man who is made ^clike grass,¹³That you have ^aforgotten Yahweh your Maker,Who ^bstretched out the heavensAnd laid the foundations of the earth,That you ^ctremble in dread continually all day long because of the wrath of the one who brings distress,As he makes ready to bring ruin?But where is the wrath of the ^done who brings distress?

¹⁴“The ^aone in chains will soon be set free and will not die in the pit, ^bnor will his bread be lacking. ¹⁵“For I am Yahweh your God, who ^astirs up the sea, and its waves roar—Yahweh of hosts is His name. ¹⁶“I have ^aput My words in your mouth and have ^bcovered you with the shadow of My hand, to ¹^,^cestablish the heavens, to found the earth, and to say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

¹⁷^aAwaken yourself! Awaken yourself! Arise, O Jerusalem,You who have ^bdrunk from the hand of Yahweh the cup of His wrath;The ¹chalice of reeling you have ²drained to the dregs.¹⁸There is ^anone to guide her among all the sons she has borne,Nor is there one to take hold of her by the hand among all the sons she has reared.¹⁹These two things have befallen you;Who will console you?The ^adevastation and destruction, famine and sword;How shall I comfort you?²⁰Your sons have fainted;They ^alie helpless at the head of every street,Like an ^bantelope in a net,Full of the wrath of Yahweh,The ^crebuke of your God.²¹Therefore, now, listen to this, you ^aafflicted,Who are ^bdrunk, but not with wine:²²Thus says your Lord, Yahweh, even your GodWho ^acontends for His people,“Behold, I have taken out of your hand the ^bcup of reeling,The ¹chalice of My wrath;You will never drink it again.²³“I will ^aset it into the hand of those who cause you grief,Who have said to ¹you, ‘^bLie down that we may walk over you.’You have even set your back down like the groundAnd like the street for those who walk over it.”

Hope for Captive Zion

52^aAwake, awake,Clothe yourself in your strength, O Zion;Clothe yourself in your ^bglorious garments,O Jerusalem, the ^choly city;For the uncircumcised and the ^duncleanWill no longer come into you.²Shake yourself ^afrom the dust, ^brise up,O captive Jerusalem;^cLoose yourself from the chains around your neck,O captive daughter of Zion.

³For thus says Yahweh, “You were ^asold for nothing, and you will be ^bredeemed ^cwithout money.” ⁴For thus says Lord Yahweh, “My people ^awent down at the first into Egypt to sojourn there; then the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. ⁵“So now, what do I have here,” declares Yahweh, “since My people have been taken away for nothing?” Yahweh declares, “Those who rule over them howl, and My ^aname is continually blasphemed all day long. ⁶“Therefore My people shall ^aknow My name; therefore in that day I am the one who is speaking, ‘Here I am.’”

⁷How lovely on the mountainsAre the feet of him who proclaims ^agood news,Who ¹announces ²peaceAnd proclaims good news of good things,Who ³announces salvation,And says to Zion, “Your ^bGod ⁴reigns!”⁸The voice of Your watchmen! They lift up their ^avoices;They shout joyfully together;For they will see ¹with their own eyesWhen Yahweh returns to Zion.⁹^aBreak forth, shout joyfully together,You ^bwaste places of Jerusalem;For Yahweh has comforted His people;He has ^credeemed Jerusalem.¹⁰Yahweh has bared His holy ^aarmIn the sight of all the nations,¹That ^ball the ends of the earth may seeThe salvation of our God.¹¹^aDepart, depart, go out from there,^bTouch nothing unclean;Go out of the midst of her, ^cpurify yourselves,You who carry the vessels of Yahweh.¹²But you will not go out in ^ahaste,Nor will you go as those who flee;For ^bYahweh will go before you,And ^cthe God of Israel will be your rear guard.

The Exalted Servant

¹³Behold, My ^aServant will prosper;He will be high and lifted up and ¹greatly ^bexalted.¹⁴Just as many were appalled at you, My people,So His ^aappearance was marred more than any manAnd His form more than the sons of men.¹⁵Thus He will ^asprinkle many nations,Kings will ^bshut their mouths on account of Him;For ^cwhat had not been told them they will see,And what they had not heard they will understand.

I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life

14“^aDo not let your heart be troubled; ¹believe in God, believe also in Me. ²“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for ^aI go to prepare a place for you. ³“And if I go and prepare a place for you, ^aI will come again and receive you to Myself, that ^bwhere I am, there you may be also. ⁴“And you know the way where I am going.” ⁵^aThomas *said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going. How do we know the way?” ⁶Jesus *said to him, “I am ^athe way, and ^bthe truth, and ^cthe life. No one comes to the Father but through Me.

Oneness with the Father

⁷“^aIf you have come to know Me, you will know My Father also; from now on you ^bknow Him, and have ^cseen Him.”

⁸^aPhilip *said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” ⁹Jesus *said to him, “Have I been with you all so long and have you not come to know Me, Philip? ^aHe who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰“Do you not believe that ^aI am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? ^bThe words that I say to you I do not speak from Myself, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. ¹¹“Believe Me that ^aI am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise ^bbelieve because of the works themselves. ¹²“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and ^agreater works than these he will do because ^bI go to the Father. ¹³“^aWhatever you ask in My name, this will I do, so that ^bthe Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴“If you ask Me anything ^ain My name, I will do it.

¹⁵“^aIf you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

¹⁶“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another ¹^,^aAdvocate, that He may be with you forever; ¹⁷^athe Spirit of truth, ^bwhom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him. You know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

¹⁸“I will not leave you as orphans; ^aI will come to you. ¹⁹“¹^,^aAfter a little while ^bthe world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; ^cbecause I live, you will live also. ²⁰“^aOn that day you will know that ^bI am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. ²¹“^aHe who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and ^bhe who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will ^cdisclose Myself to him.” ²²^aJudas (not Iscariot) *said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened ^bthat You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” ²³Jesus answered and said to him, “^aIf anyone loves Me, he will ^bkeep My word; and ^cMy Father will love him, and We ^dwill come to him and make Our dwelling with him. ²⁴“He who does not love Me ^adoes not keep My words; and ^bthe word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

²⁵“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. ²⁶“But the ^aAdvocate, the Holy Spirit, ^bwhom the Father will send in My name, ^cHe will teach you all things, and ^dbring to your remembrance all that I said to you. ²⁷“^aPeace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. ^bDo not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. ²⁸“^aYou heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and ^bI will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because ^cI go to the Father, for ^dthe Father is greater than I. ²⁹“And now ^aI have told you before it happens, so that when it happens, you may believe. ³⁰“I will not speak much more with you, for ^athe ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; ³¹but so that the world may know that I love the Father, ¹I do exactly as ^athe Father commanded Me. Get up, ^blet us go from here.

God Judges with Equity

We ^agive thanks to You, O God, we give thanks,For Your name is ^bnear;Men recount ^cYour wondrous deeds.²“For I select an ^aappointed time,It is I who ^bjudge with equity.³“The ^aearth and all who dwell in it ¹melt;It is I who have firmly set its ^bpillars. ² Selah.⁴“I said to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’And to the wicked, ‘^aDo not raise up the horn;⁵Do not raise up your horn on high,^aNor speak with insolent ¹pride.’”⁶For one’s rising up does not come from the east, nor from the west,And not from the ¹^,^adesert;⁷But ^aGod is the Judge;He ^bputs down one and raises up another.⁸For a ^acup is in the hand of Yahweh, and the wine foams;It is ^bfull of His mixture, and He pours from this;Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain and ^cdrink down its dregs.⁹But as for me, I will ^adeclare it forever;I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.¹⁰And all the ^ahorns of the wicked I will cut off,But ^bthe horns of the righteous will be raised up.
