46That whichcame as the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah the prophetaconcerning the nations.
2To aEgypt, concerning the militaryforce of bPharaohNecoking of Egypt, which was by the EuphratesRiver at cCarchemish, whichNebuchadnezzarking of Babylonstruckdown in the dfourthyear of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:
3“aArrange the shield and largeshield,And drawnear for the battle!4“Harness the horses,And 1mount the steeds,And take your stand with helmetson!aPolish the spears,Puton the bscale-armor!5“Why have I seenit? They are shattered; They are adrawingback,And their bmightymen are crushedAnd have fled to refuge,Withoutfacingback;1,cTerror is on everyside!”DeclaresYahweh.6Let not the aswiftmanflee,Nor the mightymanescape; In the north beside the riverEuphratesThey have bstumbled and fallen.7Who is this that arises like the Nile,Like the rivers whose waterstoss about?8Egyptrises like the Nile,Even like the rivers whose waterstoss about; And He has said, “I will arise and coverthatland;I will surely bcause the city to perish, as well as its inhabitants.”9Goup, you horses, and 1,adrivemadly, you chariots,That the mightymen may goforth:2Ethiopia and 3,bPut, who seize the shield,And the 4,cLydians, who seizeandbend the bow.10Indeed, athat day belongs to LordYahweh of hosts,A day of bvengeance, so as to avenge Himself on His adversaries; And the csword will devour and besatiatedAnd 1drink its fill of their blood; For there will be a dsacrifice to LordYahweh of hostsIn the land of the north by the riverEuphrates.11Goaup to Gilead and obtainbalm,bO virgindaughter of Egypt! In vain have you multiplied1remedies;Thereiscnohealing for you.12The nations have heard of your adisgrace,And the earth is full of your boutcry; For one cwarrior has stumbled over 1another,And both of them have fallendowntogether.
13This is the 1messagewhichYahwehspoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the acoming of Nebuchadnezzarking of Babylon to bstrikedown the land of Egypt:
14“Declare in Egypt and causeittobeheard in aMigdol;Causeittobeheard also in Memphis and bTahpanhes;Say, ‘Take your stand and get yourself ready,For the csword has devoured those around you.’15“Why are your amightyonesthrowndown? They do not standbecauseYahweh has bthrust them down.16“They have repeatedlyastumbled;Indeed, they have fallenoneagainstanother. Then they said, ‘Riseup! And blet us returnTo our own people and land of our birthAway from the 1,csword of the oppressor.’17“1They calledoutthere, ‘Pharaohking of Egyptis butaa rumbling; He has let the appointedtimepassby!’18“As I live,” declares the aKingWhose name is Yahweh of hosts,“Surely one shall comewho looms up like bTabor among the mountains,Or like cCarmel by the sea.19“Make your baggageready for aexile,O inhabitant of the bdaughter of Egypt,For cMemphis will become a desolation; It will even be turned into ruinand without inhabitants.20“Egypt is a prettyaheifer,But a 1horsefly is comingbfrom the north—it is coming!21“Also her amercenaries in her midstAre like 1fattenedbcalves,For even they have turnedbackand have fled away together; They did not standtheir ground. For the day of their disaster has come upon them,The time of their cpunishment.22“Its soundmoves along like a serpent; For they move on 1like a militaryforceAnd come to her as woodcutters with axes.23“They have cutdown her aforest,” declaresYahweh;“Surely it will nolonger be searchedout,Even though1they arenowmorenumerousthanblocustsAnd are withoutnumber.24“The daughter of Egypt has been puttoshame,Given over to the hand of the apeople of the north.”
25Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, says, “Behold, I am going to punishAmon of aThebes, and bPharaoh, and Egypt along with her cgods and her kings, even Pharaoh and those who dtrust in him. 26“I shall give them into the hand of those who are aseeking their lives, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzarking of Babylon and into the hand of his servants. bAfterwards, however, it will be dwelt in like in the days of old,” declaresYahweh.
27“But as for you, O Jacob My servant, ado not fear,Nor be dismayed, O Israel! For behold, I am going to bsave you from afar,And your seed from the land of their captivity; And Jacob will return and havecquietAnd be at ease, with noone making himtremble.28“O Jacob My servant, do not fear,” declaresYahweh,“For aI am with you.For I will make a completedestruction of all the nationsWhere I have banished you,Yet I will bnot make a completedestruction of you;But I will cdiscipline you with justiceAnd bynomeansleave you unpunished.”
1 Corinthians 11 - 12
11aBe imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.
Head Coverings
2NowaI praise you because you bremember me in everything and choldfirmlyto the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. 3But I want you to understand that 1Christ is the ahead of everyman, and bthe man is the head of a woman, and God is the chead of 2Christ. 4Everyman who hassomething on his head while prayingoraprophesying, shames his head. 5But everyawoman who has her headuncovered while prayingorprophesying, shames her head, for she is one and the same as the woman1whose head is bshaved. 6For if a woman does not cover1her head, let her also2have her haircutshort. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to 3have her haircutshortor4her head shaved, let her cover5her head. 7For a manought not to have his headcovered, since he is the aimage and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of man. 8For aman1does not originate from woman, but woman from man. 9For indeedman was not created for the woman’ssake, but awoman for the man’ssake. 10Therefore the womanought to havea symbol ofauthority on her head, because of the angels. 11Nevertheless, in the Lord, neither is woman1independent of man, nor is man2independent of woman. 12For as the woman1originates from the man, soalso the manhas his birththrough the woman, but aallthings2originate bfrom God. 13aJudge1for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to Godwith her headuncovered? 14Does not evennatureitselfteach you that if a manhaslonghair, it is a dishonor to him, 15but if a womanhaslonghair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering. 16But ifone is inclined to be contentious, awe haveno1otherpractice, nor have bthe churches of God.
The Lord’s Supper
17But in givingthisinstruction, aI do not praise you, because you cometogether not for the better but for the worse. 18For, in the first place, when you cometogether1as a church, I hear that 2,adivisionsexistamong you, and in part I believe it. 19For there amustalso be factionsamong you, bso that those who are approved may become1evidentamong you. 20Therefore when you meettogetherinthesameplace, it is not to eat the Lord’sSupper, 21for in your eatingeachonetakes his ownsupperfirst, and one is hungry and aanother is drunk. 22For do you not havehouses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the achurch of God and bshamethose who havenothing? What shall I say to you? Shall cI praise you? In this I will not praise you.
23For aI received from the Lord that which I alsodelivered to you, that bthe LordJesus in the night in which He was being betrayedtookbread, 24and when He had giventhanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you. Dothis in remembrance of Me.”25In the samewayHe tookathe cupalsoaftersupper, saying, “Thiscup is the bnewcovenant in My blood; dothis, as often as you drinkit, in remembrance of Me.”26For as often as you eatthisbread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lordauntil He comes.
27Therefore whoever eats the breadordrinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthymanner, shall be aguilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28But a man must atesthimself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinksjudgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30For thisreasonmanyamong you are weak and sick, and a number1,asleep. 31But if we judgedourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32But when we are judged, we are adisciplined by the Lordso that we will not be condemnedalong with bthe world.
33Sothen, my brothers, when you cometogether to eat, waitforoneanother. 34Ifanyone is ahungry, let him eatbat home, so that you will not cometogether for judgment. The remainingmatters I will cdirectdwhen I come.
Concerning Spiritual Gifts
12Nowconcerningaspiritualgifts,brothers, bI do not want you to be ignorant. 2aYou know that when you were pagans, you werebbeing ledastray to the cmuteidols, however you were led. 3Therefore I makeknown to you that noonespeaking1,aby the Spirit of Godsays, “Jesus is 2,baccursed,” and noonecansay, “Jesus is cLord,” except3,dby the HolySpirit.
4Now there are avarieties of gifts, but the sameSpirit. 5And there are varieties of ministries, and the sameLord. 6And there are varieties of workings, but the sameaGod who workseverything in everyone. 7But to eachone is given the manifestation of the Spiritafor what is profitable. 8For to one is given the word of awisdomthrough the Spirit, and to another the word of bknowledgeaccording to the sameSpirit; 9to someoneelseafaith1by the sameSpirit, and to anotherbgifts of 2healing3by the oneSpirit, 10and to another the workings of amiracles, and to anotherbprophecy, and to another the 1,cdistinguishing of spirits, to someoneelsevariousdkinds of tongues, and to another the 2,etranslation of tongues. 11But one and the sameSpiritworksallthesethings, adistributing to eachoneindividuallyjust as He wills.
12For evenaas the body is one and yethasmanymembers, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are onebody, bsoalso is Christ. 13For also 1,aby oneSpirit we were allbaptized into onebody, whetherbJewsorGreeks, whetherslavesorfree, and we were allmadetocdrink of oneSpirit.
14For also athe body is not onemember, but many. 15If the footsays, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for thisreason1any the lessa part of the body. 16And if the earsays, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for thisreason1any the lessa part of the body. 17If the wholebody were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the senseofsmell be? 18But nowGod has aappointed the members, eachone of them, in the body, bjust as He desired. 19And if they were allonemember, where would the body be? 20But nowathere are manymembers, but onebody. 21And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I havenoneed of you”; oragain the head to the feet, “I havenoneed of you.” 22On the contrary, howmuchmore is it that the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary, 23and those members of the bodywhich we think as lesshonorable, 1on these we bestowmoreabundanthonor, and our lesspresentable members becomemuchmorepresentable, 24whereas our morepresentable members havenosuchneed. But God has socomposed the body, givingmoreabundanthonor to that member which lacked, 25so that there may be no1division in the body, but that the members may have the samecare for oneanother. 26And ifonemembersuffers, all the memberssuffer with it; ifonemember is 1honored, all the membersrejoicewith it.
27Now you are aChrist’sbody, and bindividuallymembers of it. 28And God has 1,aappointed in bthe church, firstcapostles, seconddprophets, thirdeteachers, then2,fmiracles, thengifts of healings, helps, administrations, variouskinds of tongues. 29Are allapostles? Are allprophets? Are allteachers? Are allworkers of1miracles? 30Do allhavegifts of healings? Do allspeak with tongues? Do all1,atranslate? 31But 1you aearnestlydesire the greatergifts. And I will yetshow you a moreexcellentway.
