Ezekiel 24

The Parable of the Boiling Pot

And the word of Yahweh came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying,
2 “Son of man, write the name of the day, this very day. The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day. 3 Speak a parable to the rebellious house, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says Lord Yahweh,
“Put on the pot, put it on and also pour water in it;
4
Put in it the pieces,
Every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder;
Fill it with choice bones.
5
Take the choicest of the flock,
And also pile wood under the pot.
Make it seethe vigorously.
Also boil its bones in it.”

6 ‘Therefore, thus says Lord Yahweh,
“Woe to the city of blood,
To the pot in which there is rust
And whose rust has not gone out of it!
Take out of it piece after piece,
Without making a choice.
7
For her blood is in her midst;
She placed it on the bare rock;
She did not pour it on the ground
To cover it with dust.
8
That it may cause wrath to come up to take vengeance,
I have put her blood on the bare rock,
That it may not be covered.”
9 Therefore, thus says Lord Yahweh,
“Woe to the city of blood!
I also will make the pile great.
10
Heap on the wood, kindle the fire,
Completely cook the flesh
And mix in the spices
And let the bones be burned.
11
Then stand it empty on its coals
So that it may be hot
And its bronze may glow
And its uncleanness may be melted in it,
Its rust brought to a complete end.
12
She has wearied Me with toil,
Yet her great rust has not gone from her;
Let her rust be in the fire!
13
In your uncleanness is lewdness.
Because I would have cleansed you,
Yet you are not clean;
You will not be cleansed from your uncleanness again
Until I have caused My wrath against you to be at rest.
14 I, Yahweh, have spoken; it is coming, and I will act. I will not regret, and I will not pity, and I will not relent; according to your ways and according to your deeds I will judge you,” declares Lord Yahweh.’”

Ezekiel’s Wife Dies as a Sign

15 And the word of Yahweh came to me saying,
16 “Son of man, behold, I am about to take from you the desire of your eyes with a blow; but you shall not mourn, and you shall not weep, and your tears shall not come. 17 Groan silently; make no mourning for the dead. Bind on your headdress and put your shoes on your feet and do not cover your mustache and do not eat the bread of men.” 18 So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. And in the morning I did as I was commanded. 19 The people said to me, “Will you not tell us what these things that you are doing mean for us?” 20 Then I said to them, “The word of Yahweh came to me saying, 21 ‘Say to the house of Israel, “Thus says Lord Yahweh, ‘Behold, I am about to profane My sanctuary, the pride of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the delight of your soul; and your sons and your daughters whom you have left behind will fall by the sword. 22 And you will do as I have done; you will not cover your mustache, and you will not eat the bread of men. 23 And your headdresses will be on your heads and your shoes on your feet. You will not mourn, and you will not weep, but you will rot away in your iniquities, and you will groan to one another. 24 Thus Ezekiel will be a wondrous sign to you; according to all that he has done you will do; when it comes, then you will know that I am Lord Yahweh.’” 25 ‘Now as for you, son of man, will it not be on the day when I take from them their strong defense, the joy of their beauty, the desire of their eyes, and what lifts up their soul, their sons and their daughters, 26 that on that day he who escapes will come to you with a report for your ears? 27 On that day your mouth will be opened to him who escaped, and you will speak and be mute no longer. Thus you will be a wondrous sign to them, and they will know that I am Yahweh.’”

2 Timothy 1 - 2

Guard the Treasure Entrusted to You

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life in Christ Jesus,
2 To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 I am grateful to God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I unceasingly remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 longing to see you, having remembered your tears, so that I may be filled with joy, 5 being reminded of the unhypocritical faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced that it is in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and self-discipline. 8 Therefore do not be ashamed of either the witness about our Lord or me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 10 but now has been manifested by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle and a teacher. 12 For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. 13 Hold to the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. 15 You are aware of this: that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains, 17 but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me— 18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from the Lord on that day—and you know very well what services he rendered at Ephesus.

Remember Jesus Christ

You therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. 7 Understand what I say, for the Lord will give you insight in everything. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, of the seed of David, according to my gospel, 9 for which I endure hardship even to chains as a criminal. But the word of God has not been chained. 10 For this reason I endure all things for the sake of the elect, so that they also may obtain the salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 It is a trustworthy saying:
For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;
12
If we endure, we will also reign with Him;
If we will deny Him, He also will deny us;
13
If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

Accurately Handle the Word of Truth

14 Remind them of these things, solemnly charging them in the presence of God not to dispute about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.
15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid godless and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness, 17 and their word will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some. 19 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to depart from wickedness.” 20 Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of clay, and some to honor and some to dishonor. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, having been prepared for every good work. 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. 24 And the Lord’s slave must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may give them repentance leading to the full knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.

Proverbs 2

Yahweh Gives Wisdom

My son, if you will receive my words
And treasure my commandments within you,
2
To make your ear pay attention to wisdom,
Incline your heart to discernment;
3
For if you call out for understanding,
Give your voice for discernment;
4
If you seek her as silver
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5
Then you will understand the fear of Yahweh
And find the knowledge of God.
6
For Yahweh gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and discernment.
7
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright,
A shield to those who walk in integrity,
8
To guard the paths of justice,
And He keeps the way of His holy ones.
9
Then you will understand righteousness and justice
And equity—every good track.
10
For wisdom will enter your heart
And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;
11
Discretion will keep you,
Discernment will guard you,
12
To deliver you from the way of evil,
From the man who speaks perverse things;
13
From those who forsake the paths of uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
14
Who are glad to do evil
And they rejoice in the perversity of evil;
15
Whose paths are crooked,
And who are devious in their tracks;
16
To deliver you from the strange woman,
From the foreign woman who flatters with her words;
17
Who forsakes the close companion of her youth
And forgets the covenant of her God;
18
For her house sinks down to death
And her tracks descend to the dead;
19
All who go to her will not return,
And they will not reach the paths of life.
20
So that you will walk in the way of good men
And keep to the paths of the righteous.
21
For the upright will dwell in the land
And the blameless will remain in it;
22
But the wicked will be cut off from the land
And the treacherous will be torn away from it.
